Reaching New Heights

Progressive Field, a stadium located in downtown Cleveland, is the Major League Baseball ballpark of the Cleveland Guardians. As opening day was just months away, Progressive Field needed a commercial roofing contractor to complete a highly difficult and dangerous skylight removal and installation job.

Skylight Removal and Installation

Progressive Field in Cleveland needed 36 translucent skylights removed, steel repairs made, and new skylights installed around the entire upper deck overhang—the highest point in the stadium. Warren Roofing® was the only contractor to rise to the challenge and commit to the deadline.

The Challenge

High Winds and Slippery Conditions

Warren Roofing® worked closely with the owner and engineer to design a replacement skylight that would meet or exceed all wind ratings. The difficulty of the job was due to the location of the skylights on the upper deck: Wind put pressure on both the top and bottom of the skylights.

The Process

Working Through a Cold Winter

Our team fought through a cold, windy winter to make sure we finished before opening day. With a late contract award and long material lead times, we had to run multiple crews to finish on time.

The skylights were each 8 feet by 30 feet, creating a large opening that was difficult to work around during high winds and slippery conditions. Access, safety, and the deadline of having the work done before opening day on April 7, 2023, made this a very difficult—and dangerous–project. Our crew, led by foreman John Wedow, worked very hard to pull it off and maintain meticulous attention to detail, safety, and production.

A Job Well Done—Before Opening Day!

The owner was extremely satisfied. Not only did the skylights come out perfect, but we finished before opening day. We were the only contractor to commit to the schedule!
