The Job
New Roof Installation
We needed to completely remove the structure’s existing roof membrane prior to installing a new modified roofing system on the flat roof deck.
The surgery building at the Louis Stokes Cleveland Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio, required a complete tear-off of the existing roof membrane and the installation of a new one over the existing surgery suites. This job was completed in partnership with general contractor Brigadier Construction.
Request A QuoteWe needed to completely remove the structure’s existing roof membrane prior to installing a new modified roofing system on the flat roof deck.
This job presented many challenges: How do you work directly over surgery suites without disrupting the doctors, nurses, and their patients? Secondly, random gun fire around the building would sometimes result in holes to the roof membrane. We needed a solution to protect the roof in this environment.

The roof specification was to install three-plies of modified roofing on a flat roof deck. After removing the existing membrane and installing the first ply of modified roofing, it became apparent the roof decking was sloping away from the roof drains. This resulted in ponding water on the roof up to 2″ deep. It was necessary to completely redesign the roof to include tapered insulation and a cover board to slope the water to the drains.
Because we were working over surgery suites, we needed to use products without any smell. We used Tremco’s Endure Bio Adhesive, which is free of smells. To protect the building against gun fire, we installed a composite paver to resist the puncture of the bullets.
Our team installed a high quality finish despite the degree of difficulty on this project. The owner was very satisfied with the results.
